GreatStreetsRecently Our Town published a story about the Great Streets Natural Bridge Initiative and the transportation improvements being planned along the Natural Bridge Corridor. NCI has been a proud partner in the Study process for these improvements, along with the City of Normandy, UMSL, East-West Gateway Council of Governments (EWGCG), and St. Louis County the past few years. The Study was completed by NCI member CH2MHill. Once the Great Streets Natural Bridge Corridor Study had been completed, MoDOT took charge of this project, and it is now under their leadership. The construction will begin this summer with a planned completion date in the fall 2015. The multi-modal plans will increase safety, especially for pedestrian traffic by using “traffic calming” and beautification techniques. This will create a positive energy within the community, improving the business climate and spurring economic growth potential. You can read the full story on the great work being done by clicking here. You can also find more details about the plan itself at http://www.ewgateway.org/nb/.

UNIVERSITY-SQUARENorth County Inc. is also proud to be partnered with University of Missouri – St. Louis and the City of Normandy as we launch the Great Streets Natural Bridge Urban Redevelopment Corporation on April 17 for the new University Square area along Natural Bridge. As the Great Streets Natural Bridge project becomes a reality, University Square has been created to foster and promote economic development in the area. A big welcome to their Executive Director, Dick Shepard and their Director of Real Estate Development Barb Featherston. The launch will also coincide with the dedication and unveiling of METRO’s Arts in Transit installation of Catherine Magel’s sculpture, “Changing Identities”. We invite you to join us at 10 am at the UMSL South Metro Station for the celebration. For more information on this event please click here.

I am also pleased to be serving on the Great Streets West Florissant Initiative’s Community Advisory Committee. There will be a Community Workshop today at St. Louis Community College – Florissant Valley. The event is being held at the Center for Workforce Innovation from 6pm to 8pm. I encourage you to attend and provide input regarding how to improve streets, sidewalks, shopping, housing and transit along West Florissant Avenue. For more information on the workshop, the project or to take the online survey you can click here.
