The Federation of Catholic Schools welcomes students and families to participate in their CatholicFIT Spring 2015 program. Over 400 third and sixth grade students from nine North County Catholic elementary schools have been participating in CatholicFIT since February.  P.E. teachers have been working together with fitness trainer Dave Reddy to explore the 10 pillars of faith and fitness. Families are invited to attend evening workshops to learn healthy lifestyle and workout tips from expert trainers on April 8 at Blessed Teresa of Calcutta School and April 16 at St. Angela Merici School. A Finale event will be hosted by SSM DePaul Health Center on the morning of April 25 in their May Education Center. MORE INFO

Ferguson-Florissant School District's McCluer Juniors, Jahmia Collins, De’Vionte McKinney and Alice Jefferson, juniors at McCluer High School, have received the University of Missouri-St. Louis Dean’s Award for Creative Achievement in the Arts. The annual award, which provides a $1000 Creative Achievement Scholarship to attend UMSL, recognizes juniors who display outstanding talent, leadership and responsibility in one or more of their school arts programs.

The City of Florissant has been recognized as a member of Tree City USA for the 26th year. The Tree City USA, Tree Line and Tree Campus USA programs are sponsored by the National Arbor Day Foundation in cooperation with the US Forest Service and the National Association of State Foresters. Misael Barcenas-Toledo
Pattonville School District's Pattonville High School junior Misael Barcenas-Toledo was recognized with a Distinguished Achievement Award for Excellence in Science by the University of Missouri-St. Louis (UMSL). Barcenas-Toledo was selected to research organometallics with UMSL Professor Eike Bauer last summer as part of a grant supported by the National Science Foundation and the American Chemical Society. Barcenas' research was so well received that he has been asked to continue his collaboration with Dr. Bauer this summer. MORE INFO
Trinity Catholic High School seniors Chris Payeur and Jacob Klump placed second out of 25 teams at the Truss Bridge Civil Engineering competition held February 28 at St. Louis University. The pair’s model bridge supported more weight before failure than any other team in the competition, however Payeur and Klump missed first place narrowly because of the final efficiency calculations.

The Challenger Learning Center is expanding their educator scholarship program which focuses on teacher professional development, including a series of workshops that will be available to educators throughout the school year. A portion of the grant will support student programs at the Challenger Learning Center, including simulated space missions and related workshops. The deadline to apply for a grant for the 2015-16 school year is Friday, April 10 2015. SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION

The City of Florissant's Mayor Thomas Schneider has announced the City Council has approved a new CVS location at 696 & 698 N Hwy. 67. The new CVS will operate a 24 hour drive through pharmacy, retail and medical clinic. PRESS RELEASE

The Greater North County Chamber of Commerce partnered with The City of Florissant to hold its 27th Anniversary Business Showcase and Taste of North County on Saturday, March 21st at the James J. Eagan Community Center.The event was well attended and over 400 tickets were purchased to the Taste of North County. The Business Showcase featured over 60 vendor booths and 10 local restaurants sampling their delicious foods.

Lutheran High School North and the Ferguson Burger Bar sponsored a Charity Lunch at LHSN on Feb. 24 with proceeds going towards the Ferguson community recovery. Approximately 75% of the student body participated, as well as many faculty, staff, and parents.
Pattonville School District partnered with the St. Ann Police Department to teach students at Drummond Elementary School how to use 911. Students were instructed how to be calm and helpful in an emergency.

University of Missouri- St. Louis hosted a Trailblazers Ceremony celebrating the contributions and empowerment of women. UMSL Alumnus, Licensed Therapist, Motivational Speaker, Poet, Author & founder of SistaKeeper Empowerment Center & ImaniTherapy for Women and Girls, Tracie Berry-McGhee, was the guest speaker at the event which honored several UMSL women as 2015 Trailblazers.
