A Word from NCI's Executive Director, Rebecca
Zoll
Our NCI Salutes 30 Leaders in their Thirties
recognition reception is quickly approaching, so
now is the time to show your support of our community's
amazing young leaders! Please sign up today for
a sponsorship or purchase an advertisement for your
company in this year's event program book. We had
more than 50 very talented individuals nominated
this year and our judges are busy finalizing their
choices for this year's winners. Those chosen will
be announced soon on NCI's Web site, in the North
County Suburban Journal and on News 20. They will
also be recognized on September 25th at 11 a.m.
at a reception and luncheon at Norwood Hills Country
Club. Information about event tickets, sponsorship
packages, and ad space in our event program book
is now available at www.NorthStLouisCounty.com,
or by calling (314) 895-6241.
North County Incorporated is very happy to announce
that our Current Housing Trends in North County
seminar on July 16th was a huge success!
Thanks to each of the speakers for their informative
presentations: Mike Duncan from St. Louis County
spoke about statistics in North County and foreclosure,
as well as what the County is doing to help; Rory
Schwartz from Prudential Patterson gave information
on how real estate trends affect North County; Dr.
Mark Tranel from the Public Policy Research Center
spoke about the impact of municipal codes on residential
design and how it can affect the needs of an aging
population; and Joe Zanola from the Zanola Company
gave an overview of new homebuilding, supply and
demand and how North County fits into the puzzle.
A special thank you also goes to St. Louis Community
College-Florissant Valley for hosting the seminar
in their Training Center. CLICK
HERE to read the North County Suburban Journal's
article about NCI's Housing Seminar. You can also
visit our Web site at www.NorthStLouisCounty.com

For several months, NCI had advocated for the retention
and then the restoration of METRO services in our
community. Due to NCI's and other groups' communication
with METRO officials, we were able to avoid some
of the more drastic cuts to our major employment
hubs earlier this year, though we did suffer some
service cuts and route reductions. However, due
to a one-time 12 million dollar appropriation by
our legislators, many of these services will be
restored on a temporary basis. This will give officials
more time to try to find a permanent long-term funding
solution to ensure sustainable, adequate mass transit
services are available to the thousands in North
County that need these services to get to jobs,
doctors and grocery stores. Click
HERE for additional information and route
restoration information.
Dr. Chris (Wright) Nicastro

On behalf of North County Incorporated Board of
Directors, I would like to extend our sincere congratulations
to Dr. Chris (Wright) Nicastro on her recent
appointment as Missouri's Commissioner of Education.
For years, North County and North County Incorporated
have benefited from Chris's amazing dedication and
leadership in our community. Chris has been a member
of NCI for nearly 25 years, on our Board of Directors
since 1987 and is a past president. We have been
fortunate to benefit from her amazing leadership
for many years, now the State will have the same
opportunity. CLICK
HERE for more information.
A big CONGRATULATIONS to NCI Board Member Karen
Pierre from the University of Missouri-St. Louis
on her recent recognition at the Missouri Legislative
Black Caucus Conference. Karen received the Gwen
Giles Award for her public service efforts. Gwen
Giles was the first African-American senator in
Missouri. Senator Rita Days and St. Louis County
Executive Charlie Dooley recommended Karen for the
award. Congratulations, Karen, on this well-deserved
honor!
It is with sadness that I ask our membership to
take a moment and remember two of NCI's long-time
members, North County business owners and dedicated
community volunteers. This past weekend, we lost
Bette O'Keefe (CRS Printing) and John
Stygar (Stygar Family of Funeral Services),
two great people who believed in our community and
gave much of their time and leadership talents to
making our lives better. They will be missed.
Finally, just a brief reminder that we are happy
to put information about our members' events, accomplishments
and other exciting news in our monthly eNewsletter.
This is a FREE member benefit and I encourage each
of you to take advantage of it and submit items
to the office by CLICKING
HERE or sending your information to nci@northcountyinc.com
with "eNews item" in the subject line. We need to
receive items by the 20th of each month in order
to include them in the following month's eNewsletter.
Therefore, if you have an eNews item for September,
it will need to be submitted to our office by the
20th of August.
Have a terrific August!
