This workshop is free and open to anyone who is interested in running for public office but is geared toward non-partisan offices in Missouri jurisdictions such as municipal councils, fire protection districts or school boards. Former Ferguson-Florissant School District teacher Nancy Schnell received the Missouri Environmental Education Association Outstanding Service Award in recognition of her efforts to promote and provide environmental education leadership. Ms. Schnell received the award on Nov. 8, and will be recognized by the Ferguson-Florissant Board of Education for her achievement on Dec.10 at 7 p.m. MORE INFO
Pattonville School District High School's World Quest team placed second out of 25 schools and won a $500 prize after competing in the regional World Quest competition. The team was three correct questions away from winning a free trip to the Washington, D.C. competition. World Quest is a team competition that tests students' knowledge on 70 questions related to history, geography, culture and current events.
For the 13th consecutive year, Ritenour School District has earned the prestigious Meritorious Budget Award for excellence in the preparation of its 2014-2015 annual budget. In addition the award, the district received a clean financial audit of its financial records, accounting practices and compliance with state and federal requirements during the fiscal year that ended June 30, 2014. Trinity Catholic High School students excelled at the annual Math Contest at Forest Park Community College on November 1. High scorers for the Titans were freshman Kyra Walsh (St. Angela Merici), sophomore Aqeel Glass, junior Vanilla Wang and senior Dan Jedding (St. Rose Philippine Duchesne). The Trinity Catholic team of juniors - Vanilla Wang, Nicole Jedding (St. Rose), Yen Quach (St. Norbert) and Jessica Eaton (St. Rose) - finished eighth as did the team of seniors - Dan Jedding, Alan Scheibel (St. Angela Merici) and Danielle Doherty (Blessed Teresa of Calcutta). Congratulations to all of the students who participated.
 
 
On November 13, the I Love Ferguson committee presented a check for $5000 to North County, Inc. for the Reinvest North County Fund which provides relief for businesses and schools impacted by the events of August 2014. The check presentation brings I Love Ferguson’s total contribution to Reinvest North County to $15,000 in just under three months of fundraising.

The City of Hazelwood Fire Protection District recently named two fifth grade students from McNair Elementary School, in the Hazelwood School District, as local winners of a Fire Prevention Essay contest. On Thursday, Nov. 20, in recognition of this honor, students Marissa Carter and Ria McGowen were picked up at their homes by Hazelwood firefighters and transported to school for the entire community to see. Fourth-graders from three Pattonville School District elementary schools recently participated in safety training through the Progressive Agriculture Safety Day. The program was a full-day event designed for students to learn safety and health lessons they can use every day while at home and school and in the community.

Ritenour School District students saluted veterans on November 11 as part of special Veterans Day assemblies at several elementary schools. Fourth-graders at both schools led the singing of patriotic songs at both schools. MORE INFO


The Small Business Relief Program fund has been set up by the State of Missouri, the St. Louis Economic Development Partnership, the St. Louis Regional Chamber, and a coalition of banks to help many impacted small businesses in the area by providing zero-interest loans customized to meet the specific needs of each eligible business. To date the Small Business Relief Fund program has received loan applications from 41 businesses, funded 29 and denied 6 for a total of$350,500 in the community. The team is still working to ensure all of the businesses in the impacted areas are aware of the available resources for their business. MORE INFO

A group of anonymous donors, along with the St. Louis Community College Foundation, have created the Ferguson Scholarship at St. Louis Community College Challenge Grant specifically to assist students who reside in the 63135 and 63136 ZIP codes.
