Hazelwood School District's senior, Ahlam Issa received the KFC Colonel's Scholars Scholarship, valued at $20,000. CLICK HERE [PDF] for more information.
Live Well Ferguson 5K Walk/Run was a huge success with more than 900 runners/walkers registered for the two events and more than 570 completed the inaugural 5k run/walk through the streets of Ferguson. CLICK HERE [PDF] for more details.

Dr. Lisa Luna-Schwarz
Pattonville School District's principal, Dr. Lisa Luna-Schwarz is the first administrator from Missouri to be selected to the National Staff Development Leadership Academy. She will also work with professional development leaders from all around the nation and learn best leadership practices. Her research over a two-year period will be presented during the 2012 National Staff Development Conference and published in the NSDC Educational Journal.

Ritenour School District's Chief Financial Officer, Doug Baum was named the 2010 School Business Official of the Year by the Missouri Association of School Business Officials (MoASBO). CLICK HERE [PDF] for more information.

Jackie Hinricks
Riverview Gardens School District's third-grade teacher, Jackie Hinricks for receiving Riverview Gardens School District's 2009-10 Teacher of the Year. She will represent the district in the Missouri Teacher of the Year program. CLICK HERE [PDF] for more details.
St. Louis Community College at Florissant Valley for appointing Ashok K. Agrawal as the Dean of mathematics, science, engineering and technology division. Agrawal was also recently appointed as vice-president for academic affairs at the campus.
 
 
Ferguson-Florissant School District's superintendent and NCI Executive board member, Jeffrey R. Spiegel announced his plans to retire at the end of the 2010-2011 school year. The district's Board of Education approved his plans at its April meeting. CLICK HERE [PDF] for further information.
Hazelwood School District has become the first Missouri district to receive full certification for its Project Lead the Way® Biomedical Science program. The District received certification in May. CLICK HERE for more information.

Pattonville School District announced the honorees for Pattonville Teacher of the Year and Pattonville Support Staff Employee of the Year during its annual District Appreciation Night on May 3. Julie Kampschroeder, a college/career counselor at Pattonville High School, was named Pattonville Teacher of the Year and Judy Zahner, executive secretary at Pattonville Heights Middle School, was named Pattonville Support Staff Employee of the Year. Mike LaChance
Ritenour School District appointed Mike LaChance as principal of Marion Elementary School effective July 1, 2010. For the past four years, LaChance has served as an assistant principal at Ritenour High School
Riverview Gardens School District was appointed a three-person "special administrative board" by the State Board of Education that will be effective July 1st. CLICK HERE [PDF] for further details.


St. Louis County Executive Charlie Dooley speaks to Hazelwood East Miiddle School gifted students
St. Louis County Executive Charlie Dooley met with gifted students at Hazelwood East Middle School as part of a lesson associated with the MY LOGO program with UMSL and University of Missouri Extension. Dooley spoke to seventh and eighth graders about the National Archives and Records Administration building, which will be located next to the school and is scheduled to open in 2011. The City of Bellefontaine Neighbors is now working with Block Hawley, Commercial Real Estate Service to develop the corner of Highway 367 and 267. They hope to attract businesses with their location, and easy highway access.
The City of Florissant will be participating in a Prescription Discount Card Program through the National League of Cities. This card will be available at City Hall, John F. The City of Hazelwood will be launching a new Prescription Discount Drug Card program for its residents through the National League of Cities. It doesn't cost anything for residents to participate in this program -- no membership fees, no enrollment paperwork to fill out and no bearing on existing health coverage. East-West Gateway Council of Governments is seeking comment on the transportation policies and investment strategies set out in the Draft FY 2011-2014 Transportation Improvement Program (TIP) and the Draft Air Quality Conformity Determination for the St. Louis metropolitan area.
