North County Incorporated in partnership with the St. Louis Economic Development Partnership and the St. Louis Regional Chamber is a hosting a series of free Building Blocks for Small Business Growth Workshops in May. This series of workshops will be held at the St. Louis Community College-Florissant Valley. All for-profit businesses in Ferguson, Dellwood and Jennings are eligible to participate at no charge. These hands-on workshops are meant to support small businesses with necessary tools to grow their business. Workshops focus on business planning, legal and insurance guidance, financial literacy, effective sales techniques, and marketing. MORE INFO

University of Missouri-St. Louis will hold the ninth annual St. Louis Fine Print, Rare Book and Paper Arts Fair from May 1-3. Dealers from coast to coast attend this yearly event. Lutheran High School North's Crusaders will play the Lutheran South Lancers in a complete league game at Busch Stadium, immediately following the 1:15 Cardinals-Pirates game on Sunday, May 3. As time permits, the junior varsity teams will also play several innings.

East-West Gateway is seeking comments on Connected2045, the long-range transportation plan for the St. Louis region and the associated State of the System Report and Air Quality Conformity Document. The public comment period runs from Monday, April 27, 2015 until Friday, May 29, 2015 during which time all documents will be posted on the East-West Gateway website. Ferguson-Florissant School District teacher, Tanya Brown, a teacher at Cool Valley Elementary School, has been named the Academy of Science-St. Louis-Monsanto Teacher of the Year. Brown was selected for the honor from close to 200 nominees in the St. Louis region. She will receive $2,000 for professional development and $500 for classroom supplies. PRESS RELEASE
Ferguson-Florissant School District sophomores, Will Bump and Griffin Jones, who attend McCluer North High School, and Michaela Davis, a student at McCluer High School, have been selected to attend the 2015 Missouri Scholars Academy. The students will attend the three-week residential program on the campus of the University of Missouri-Columbia. They are among 330 Missouri students selected to attend the academy. PRESS RELEASE

Lutheran High School North junior, Renetha Dickson, was named to the Missouri Class 3 All-State Basketball Team by the Missouri Basketball Coaches’ Association.

Lutheran High School North students, Alexis Hudspeth, Frankie Isaac, and Taelor Morris-Devrouax, got hands-on experience in the medical field as participants in Washington University’s Saturday Scholars Academy. The students attended lectures on a different system of the body, worked with a cadaver in the anatomy lab, and did research in the medical library for a final presentation.
Lutheran High School North senior, Josh Fackler, has been selected for the 2015 Missouri Scholars 100, a statewide program that honors 100 of Missouri’s top academic students. Each student nominated had to meet criteria of an “Academic Decathlon.”
Pattonville School District congratulates ten of their volunteers and staff members who are receiving the Pride of Pattonville Award for outstanding service to the district. Awardees include Mary Florence Boone, Chris Curtis, Michelle DiSalvo, Kim Gindler, Samantha Keeler, Ron Orr, Sara Jane Rybarczyk, Tyler Schmieg, Peter Schmoeker, and Dr. Greg Schnatmeier. MORE INFO
Pattonville School District student, Momo Kikuchi, a seventh-grader at Holman Middle School, was chosen by the St. Louis Sports Hall of Fame Golf Committee to receive one of its inaugural Jay Randolph Achievement Awards for her championship play as a St. Louis area amateur golfer in 2014. Pattonville School District students placed in the top 10 at the Missouri State Chess Tournament in Columbia. The team finished 10th out of 29 high school teams. More than 550 students competed at the state level. MORE INFO
Riverview Gardens School District high school students raised over $15,000 to extend their learning experiences in science, social studies and Spanish. The Show Me Costa Rica Project allowed students to visit the country for 7 days this month culminating an intensive study of Costa Rica culture, environment and customs. MORE INFO
Riverview Gardens School District Glasgow Elementary student, Tony Taylor, won first place in the Missouri Bar Young Lawyers Section - Law Day Art Contest.   In celebration of Law Day, May 1, 2015, The Missouri Bar Young Lawyers’ Section sponsored its annual art contest for Missouri elementary school students.
Two Riverview Gardens School District Central Middle School students were honored at the Eighth Annual North County Churches Uniting for Racial Harmony & Justice Youth Appreciation Dinner. Jayda Lucas and Jayla Templeton were honored for excellence in multiple categories including community service and academic, artistic or athletic achievement.
Riverview Gardens School District High School senior Jessica Wright received a full four-year scholarship to Lindenwood University through a partnership from Olympian Jackie Joyner-Kersee, Lindenwood University and representatives from the R. Whittington Foundation. MORE INFO
University of Missouri–St. Louis freshman third baseman Jennah Perryman is one of 25 student-athletes from across the country to be selected to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association Top 25 List for the inaugural DII National Freshman of the Year award.
The Bridge at Florissant has become a donation site for the Crisis Nursery. The Crisis Nursery saves more 7000 lives each year but still need the help of the community. The Bridge at Florissant is taking donations such as diapers, wipes, and formula. PRESS RELEASE
Christian Hospital is pleased to announce its newest endoscopic test being performed – endoscopic ultrasound (EUS). EUS is a minimally invasive diagnostic test that combines the technology of endoscopy and ultrasound to diagnose various conditions in the chest and abdomen.

The City of Florissant partnered with Life Care Centers and others to provide the Aging My Way Resource Fair. Over 350 senior citizens attended this event.

The City of Florissant's annual electronic recycle event was a popular success. An over flow of people came to the event to recycle electronic devices which included TVs, computer equipment, stereos and household appliances. Midwest Recycling Center staffed the event with their employees and provided the necessary equipment which helped make this event another success. PRESS RELEASE
