Trinity Catholic High School is hosting a special presentation on Tuesday, October 7th at St. Rose Philippine Duchesne Catholic Church entitled, “It’s not just about Ferguson, It’s about our opportunity”. The event will take place beginning at 7:30pm and will include guest speaker, Leon Hite, Trinity Catholic Head Football Coach, author, mentor, motivational speaker and Director of Safety and Security for the Jennings School District. Ferguson-Florissant School District is hosting “Time For Twos” classes this fall with Parents and Grandparents being invited to participate in free activities with their children. The class will be offered through the Early Education Department and will be held on Tuesdays starting on October 7 from 9:30am – 11am at the District’s Early Education Building. Ritenour School District is hosting its Homecoming on October 11th. A Hall of Fame dinner is taking place on October 10th. The Homecoming Parade begins at 9am with this year’s grand marshal, Army Ranger Cory Remsburg, leading the parade. The football game begins at 1pm at Moore Field. Northwest of Chamber of Commerce is hosting its 2nd Annual Masquerade Ball on Friday, October 10th from 7pm – 11pm at Sybergs Restaurant in Maryland Heights. Ferguson-Florissant School District is hosting a community health fair on Friday, October 10th from 8:30am to 4:30pm. The fair is open to the public and employees and will take place at the District’s Administration Center located at 1005 Waterford Drive in Florissant. Services available include flu shots, blood pressure and diabetes screenings along with other information and education on health related topics. For more information please click here.

St. Louis Crisis Nursery is hosting the Over the Top for Tots “Fall into the Holidays” Luncheon event on Friday, November 7 at the Columns in St. Charles from 10am – 2pm. Ritenour School District’s Pride and Promise Foundation is hosting it’s 3rd Annual Trivia Night on Friday, November 14th at Wild Acres Gymnasium at 2500 Ashby Rd in Overland. Cost is $25 per person or $200 for a table of eight and includes beverages and snacks. All proceeds benefit the students of the Ritenour School District. St. Louis Crisis Nursery is hosting Napoli Night for the Crisis Nursery on Thursday, November 20th from 5:30pm to 8pm. The event will take place at Bar Napoli and tickets cost $40 which includes appetizers and an open bar. There will be a silent auction, entertainment and raffles. Christian Hospital Emergency Department held a ceremony on September 18th to celebrate the official completion of the expansion project. The $17.3 million dollar Emergency Department renovation increased the size of the ED to 40,000 square feet which includes 38 private exam rooms and five major medical rooms. The last major renovation was in 1993. Imaging services also underwent renovation as part of the project.
Emerson Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, David Farr, announced on September 18th a commitment of $1.5 million dollars to provide scholarships for University of Missouri students that graduated from the Ferguson-Florissant, Normandy, Jennings, Hazelwood, Riverview Gardens and Ritenour School Districts. Beginning next fall students will be able to apply for 1 of up to 60 annual scholarships ranging from $2000 to $5000 each. To read the full story please click here.
Hazelwood School District’s Cold Water Elementary School was recognized by Character Plus and the St. Louis Rams for implementing character fitness for its students and staff. Several students at the school helped build “Bear Trail”, an outdoor wood chipped fitness trail at the school. They were honored at an all-school assembly on September 12. Hazelwood School District celebrated growth following the release of the 2013-2014 Annual Performance Report by DESE. The district scored 116 if a possible 140 points totaling 82.9% of total points possible. They saw significant improvement in many areas but improvements in attendance specifically were of particular importance. To read the full release click here.
Hazelwood School District Board of Education Secretary, Karlton Thornton, recently achieved Master Certification through the Missouri School Board Association’s Certified Board Member Program. The CBM helps local school board members master the knowledge and skills they need to function as effective educational leaders in their communities. Thornton has served on the HSD board since 2009.

Jennings School District, Ferguson-Florissant School District, Riverview Gardens School District and Normandy School District were recently honored with a $10,000 grant from the Reinvest North County Fund that was created by St. Louis Regional Business Council and North County Incorporated and to support small business owners and school districts that were impacted by the recent events in Dellwood, Ferguson and Jennings. Jennings School District has shown substantial improvement in their MSIP 5 scores during the recent review process. The final Annual Performance Report recently released by DESE shows that Jennings School District earned a significant increase in points that has indicated that they will regain full accreditation during the next review. Pattonville School District’s Pattonville High School had 3 seniors named semifinalists in the prestigious National Merit Scholarship Program. Grant Matthews, Arael Rauls and Delaney Rybarczyk became finalists after achieving high levels of success both academically and on standardized testing. Only a very small percentage of the nearly 1.2 million high school juniors around the country are honored as semifinalists for this program.
Pattonville School District now ranks amongst the state’s top school districts following the release of DESE’s Annual Performance Report. Pattonville scored 96.8 percent of the possible points on the review not only making it one of the top districts in the St. Louis region but also at the state level. The third-year APR review will come out in the fall of 2015.
NCI sends a special thanks to NCI Member Paul Cerame Auto Group for their campaign to help raise funds for the Reinvest North County Fund. They donated a portion of proceeds from every car sold in September to the fund to help our business community. Thanks for the support.

Ritenour School District made significant gains during the recent MSIP 5 review process. In the last review process Ritenour earned 71.8 percent of possible points, in the recent review they increased that total to 80.5 percent of possible points. Ritenour School District High School students recently recognized local first responders at a September 11th, First Responders Day event. They honored the many firefighters, EMT’s, paramedics and police officers with a free luncheon. Ritenour culinary students helped prepare the meals prepared for the honorees. Riverview Gardens School District achieved some significant gains on the recent Annual Performance Report that was released by DESE. Riverview edged closer to accreditation by increasing their overall percentage of points earned from 28.6% during last year’s review to 45.4% this year, or a 16.8% increase. This is the most points Riverview has earned towards accreditation in nearly 10 years. To read the full release please click here.
Riverview Gardens School District Director has been elected to serve on the National Association of Federal Education Program Administrators Executive Committee. Joycelyn Pugh-Walker, Director of State and Federal Programs for the district, was elected to serve on the NAFEPA committee during a ceremony at the annual fall workshop in Oklahoma City.
University of Missouri – St. Louis’ professor of economics, Susan Feigenbaum, was honored with the 2014 Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Service at a ceremony on September 17. Susan was presented with a plaque and $1000 honorarium during the annual State of the University Address. To read the full story please click here.
University of Missouri – St. Louis’ Estella Rash, a childcare assistant at the University Child Development Center was honored on Sept. 12 with the Early Childhood Education Award by the St. Louis American Foundation. Rash received the award as a result of her outstanding service to children that spans a career of 30+ years. To read the full story please click here.
North County Inc. along with the Regional Business Council have established a Reinvest North County Fund to help the businesses and school districts in the North County areas recently affected by the civil unrest in Dellwood, Ferguson and Jennings. Christian Hospital’s Child Development Center is enrolling for its early childhood programs. The CDC is state licensed and accredited, and professionally staffed with ongoing programs for children aged 6 weeks to 6 years and includes a full-day kindergarten. Hazelwood School District’s Lusher Elementary School hosted a Patriot Day celebration with Local First Responders on September 11th to honor those that died during the terrorist attacks on September 11th of 2001. Members of the Florissant Police Dept. and the Florissant Valley Fire Protection district joined Lusher students and staff in commemorating those that lost their lives.
Pattonville School District’s Pattonville Heights Middle School saw nearly its entire staff take the “Ice Bucket Challenge” to raise money for the ALS Association. The challenge snowballed beginning with Principal Mosher and extending down to support staff. They school raised nearly $350 during the campaign. To watch videos of the “icing” please click here.
Rotary Club of Florissant is hosting a season long fundraiser in collaboration with the St. Louis Rams. The event is part of Rotary International’s “End Polio Now” fundraiser. The Rams have designated a certain number of tickets for both preseason games and all 8 regular season games to be sold with a portion of the proceeds from these seats benefitting Rotary.

University of Missouri – St. Louis Undergrad, Senior Richard Davenport was one of nice recent recipients of an undergraduate research grant at UMSL. Davenport’s cellular-level research has successfully been tracking protein linked to Alzheimer’s disease. The $1000 grant will be used to continue his research.
