Delmar Gardens North will be holding their annual Senior Resource Day on Thursday, October 1 from 9:30am-2:30pm. The City of Ferguson will be holding Ferguson Community Day on Saturday, October 3 at the Ferguson Community Center, 1050 Smith Ave., from 12:00-4:00pm. A host of resources and experts will be available to offer help in housing, social media and job related issues. There will also be activities for kids. This is a free family friendly event. The Ferguson-Florissant School District will host a Community Health Fair from 8:30am to 4:30pm on Friday, Oct. 9 at the district's Administration Center-Building B, 1005 Waterford Dr. Events include blood pressure and vision screening. Information will be provided on smoking cessation, dental health, cold/flu prevention, stress awareness, disease screening for men and women, and resources for making informed medical decisions. The City of Florissant will welcome co-hosts Claire Kellett, meteorologists Matt Chambers and Kent Ehrhardt, of Great Day St. Louis, on Friday, October 9th to do a live show on the front lawn of Florissant’s City Hall. The City of Florissant will be holding a Halloween Dance & Costume Party for 5th-8th graders on Friday, October 23 from 6:30-9:00pm at the John F Kennedy Center. Jennings School District received school supplies from Regions Bank in August. Mr. Mike Hart, Regional President of Regions Bank and members of his staff dropped off school supplies at the Jennings schools, and stopped to meet with some of our students. The Pattonville School District has been named one of the "Best Places to Teach in Missouri" by Niche. The district is ranked No. 4 out of more than 500 school districts throughout Missouri. Overall, Pattonville ranked in the Top 5 percent of all districts measured - 428th out of 8,738 for best school districts in America. The district is ranked as the 9th best public school district in the St. Louis metro area (out of 105), placing it in the Top 10 percent locally, and the 11th best public school district in Missouri (out of 284), placing it in the Top 4 percent in the state. UMSL's associate professor of anthropology, Susan Brownell, received the Chancellor's Award for Excellence in Research and Creativity during the State of the University Address in September. UMSL's senior lecturer, Brian Lawton, received the Chancellor’s Award for Excellence to a Part-Time Faculty Member during the State of the University Address in September. Since becoming a senior lecturer at the University of Missouri–St. Louis in 2001, Lawton has made the abstract and difficult aspects of computer programming palatable and engaging to students. Valley Industries Sheltered Workshop in Hazelwood, Missouri is featured on the Health Education Channel (HEC-TV) Charter 989 this month on the show Impact. The story focuses on the workers at Valley Industries and the impact of the other Missouri Workshops, including the positive impact that employment at a Missouri Extended Employment Sheltered Workshop has for them and their community. Ferguson-Florissant School District has launched a Chess Program. The 10-week chess program will be funded by Ascension and administered by the Chess Club and Scholastic Center of St. Louis. The hope is to engage hundreds of students across the district in once-a-week chess club events led by a certified instructor. The program is free to students. PRESS RELEASE
The City of Florissant hosted their 3rd Annual Largest Book Party in St. Louis in September. Police officers and firemen read books to young children to promote the importance of reading. 300 children from low income families enjoyed story time, snacks and were able to pick out four brand new books to take home. The Rotary Club of Florissant donated $2000 worth of supplies to the The Rotary Club of Florissant donated $2000 worth of supplies to the Saint Louis Crisis Nursery’s North County Nursery. Funded through Rotary Club International, the Rotary Club of Florissant was able to buy much needed supplies for children in the Nursery. They donated clothes, diapers, backpacks, cleaning supplies, school supplies, formula, a vacuum cleaner and other items essential to the children of the North County Nursery. “We are so grateful for the Rotary Club of Florissant’s support. Every single item is appreciated and will definitely be used. We can all make a difference in the lives of these children and we’re so glad for the support of the Rotary Club” said Denise Wiehardt, Program Coordinator at the North County Nursery.

The Saint Louis Crisis Nursery is committed to preventing child abuse and neglect by offering real help and real hope to families in crisis. The Crisis Nursery is an independent, not-for-profit agency providing short-term, safe havens to 7,500 children a year, birth through age 12, whose families are faced with an emergency or crisis. St. Louis County Executive Steve Stenger has issued a statement today in support for the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency remaining in St. Louis. The move is significant as two of the four proposed NGA sites are in St. Louis County. Those include the former Chrysler plant in Fenton and the MetLife facility in Mehlville. The NGA also is considering land near Scott Air Force Base in St. Clair County, Illinois. MORE INFO

Trinity Catholic High School will once again be providing a $2,000 tuition scholarship for all incoming Freshman students. Families will receive an automatice $1,500 scholarship when applying to Trinity Catholic for the 2016-2017 school year.
