As part of the organization's 30th Anniversary
Celebration, North County Incorporated (NCI)
recognized several area leaders for making
a significant positive impact in North County.
Friday, May 4 at the St. Louis Airport Marriott,
more than 500 business, civic and community
leaders gathered at NCI's 30th Annual Breakfast
to honor this year's award recipients.
NCI Legacy Awards, were presented to Lowell
Girardier, owner of Girardier Building
and Realty Company, the Florissant Valley
Chamber of Commerce, under the leadership
of Diana Weidinger and the Rotary Club
of Florissant. These worthy recipients
were chosen for making a distinctive impact
in the advancement of North County over the
past 30 years and for their long-standing
support of NCI. This is the first year that
NCI has given our Legacy Award.
Ann Brand, Community and Government
Relations Manager for St. Louis Community
College at Florissant Valley, was honored
with the prestigious Elmer Belsha Leadership
Award. This award honors those who have made
a long-term commitment and had a positive
impact on the North County region and NCI.
NCI's 2007 Business Development Awards were
given to the City of Hazelwood, under the
leadership of Mayor T.R. Carr, and NorthPark
Partners (Clayco and McEagle) for positively
improving the business climate of North County.
NCI's Community Development Awards recognizes
leaders' efforts that positively benefit others
through selfless acts. Kim Bakker,
Community and Business Relations Manager for
SSM DePaul Health Care of SSM DePaul Health
Center, Carolyn Marty, Managing Editor
of North County Suburban Journals, and Dr.
Rance Thomas, President of North County
Churches Uniting for Racial Harmony and Justice,
were Community Development award recipients.
The Village of Velda Village Hills,
under the leadership of Chairwoman Mollie
Bradford, and Charles Henson received
NCI's 2007 Special Recognition Awards for
their long-standing involvement with community,
civic and charitable organizations in North
County.
The event program included a special "Celebrating
30 Years" tribute that focused on NCI's long-standing
commitment to North County. Program presenter,
NCI's president, Dr. Mark Tranel, Director
of Public Policy Research Center, addressed
supporters of NCI saying, "Our work is not
complete. We gather together today to celebrate
but let us also use this opportunity to rededicate
ourselves to that mission of being the strong
unified voice for North St. Louis County."

North County Incorporated is a regional development
organization, which acts as a catalyst to
define and advocate economic and community
development for North St. Louis County. NCI
