2020 Accomplishments

Economic & Community Development

  • Worked with regional partners to help businesses increase resiliency during the COVID pandemic, including providing PPE, hosting webinars for businesses about PPP, other grant and resources, connections to application assistance providers and more.
  • Participated in multiple regional pandemic recovery advisory groups to represent the small business needs and concerns in North County, including sub‐committee of the St. Louis County’s CARES Economic Recovery Team, chaired by past NCI Board Chair Rick Stevens and the Small Business Ecosystem Assessment.
  • Advanced our educational initiative on the economic benefit of racial equity to catalyze others toward cultural change within the workplace. We successfully completed our second free workshop with 23 civic, business and community leaders in North County participating. To date, more than 50 leaders have participated in this program. Thank you to the US Bank Foundation for their support of this initiative.
  • Initiated educational initiative to get municipal, business, faith‐based, healthcare and educational leaders involved with taking actions to increase awareness and participation in the 2020 Census. This was critical to help increase federal funding allocations and a fair representation for North County, which has historically been undercounted. Presented information to more than 300 leaders about helping their constituents understand the importance of participation and gained commitments from 50 area business, civic and municipal organizations to collaboratively work toward increasing participation.
  • Advocated for appropriate state‐wide transportation, education and healthcare funding.
  • Developed a North County economic development collaborative conversations cohort to work on cooperative initiatives to advance small business assistance and growth opportunities in community.

  • Advocated for equitable public education and for increased funding of early childhood education.
  • Supported legislation increasing funding for after‐school programs, expanding the investment in higher education and restoration of funding for the Parents as Teachers program.
  • Increasing awareness of public and private schools accomplishments and fundraisers.

Health Care

  • Advocated for the passage of the Medicaid expansion ballot initiative, passed by voters, giving access to care for 300,000 Missourians, bringing Federal tax dollars back to the State. This is expected to create
    20,000 jobs.
  • Promoted health care providers’ community educational programs and other initiatives for improving quality of life.
  • Celebrated and promoted the expansion and investment of health care providers to enhance access to and quality of care in North County.
  • Shared daily updates with leadership from the STL Pandemic Health Taskforce.

  • Invested in and advanced True North, a long‐term community‐wide marketing campaign to rebrand North County by increasing awareness around positive assets, celebrating advancement and improving the perception of the community. Interaction with social media sites for True North increased 60 % this year.
  • Celebrated exceptional accomplishments of community stakeholders improving North County at a hybrid version (virtual and small in‐person) of our Annual Leadership Breakfast.
Thanks to St. Louis Community College‐Florissant Valley for their technical and location support.
  • Hosted NCI Annual Golf Tournament to help raise funds for NCI advocacy and advancement initiatives for North County.
  • Increase positive awareness by promoting hundreds of member events and accomplishments via monthly Enewsletters and social media.

Fergusons Twilight Run and others via sponsorship trades, volunteering and social media promotion.

  • Helped bring the $278 million dollar investment for the I‐270 north reconstruction project to fruition. Thanks to MoDOT, the MO Transportation Commission and East‐West Gateway for prioritizing this investment for North County, and to our many community leaders who collaborated with us on this decade‐long advocacy work.
  • Facilitated collaborative conversations with MoDOT, County and municipal leaders concerning the I‐270 corridor aesthetics as efforts toward improving corridor advance.
