North County Marketing Strategy-Community Engagement Meeting

NCI in collaboration with theGreater North County Chamber of Commerce,Maryland Heights Chamber of Commerce and theNorthwest Chamber of Commerce hosted a North County Marketing Strategy-Community Engagement Meeting at the Workforce Solution Group office at SLCC’s Corporate College.

We want to thank those of you who participated and provided input on North County marketing strategies. We had a terrific turnout of over 70 people for the event and got some great feedback from participants. Thank for your continued support of our work towards a better North County.

On Sunday, July 27, 2014 we are holding ourAnnual Anniversary Dinner, Wine Pairing and Silent Auction at Hendel’s Market Café and Piano Bar in Florissant. Theevent begins at 6pm with the silent auction and dinner will be served at 6:30pm. The cost is $85.00 per person. Reservations are required and space is limited to the first 80 paid registrations so RSVP quickly. For more information you can visit the event page or contact the NCI office. On Friday, September 26th NCI, along with media sponsors GTNN and Community News, will host the annual NCI Salutes 30 Leaders in their Thirties event at Norwood Hills Country Club. The awards reception begins at 11:30am. We are currently seeking nominations for deserving candidates with the deadline for nominations being July 14. NCI SPOTLIGHT Two of NCI’s Board Member’s City of Ferguson Mayor James Knowles and City of Black Jack Mayor Norm McCourt were recently sworn in by NCI Board Member City of Florissant Mayor Schneider, former President of St. Louis County Municipal League, as new Board Members of the 2013/14 Municipal League. For full release click here. Congrats to two of our member cities for receiving a St. Louis County Municipal League MUNI award at the annual dinner. The City of Black Jack was honored with the award for “Citizen Engagement” focusing on its efforts to keep the community informed through the city’s new interactive website as well as GTN TV. To read the full release please click here. The City of Florissant was also honored for the innovation and implementation of its Park Police under the category of ‘public safety’. To read the complete press release click here. Happy 75th Anniversary to the City of Florissant. It was on June 26th, 1939 that the Florissant Mayor Bangert and his City Council passed an ordinance and officially changed the name of the city from St. Ferdinand to Florissant. Kudos to NCI Board member Bob Cerame ofPaul Cerame Ford. He recently presented a $6,000 check to McCluer North High School of the Ferguson-Florissant School Districtthrough Ford’s “Drive One 4 UR School” program. One of the regional organization that NCI works with throughout the year is East-West Gateway. They have just released their“Where We Stand Update on Transportation” comparing the most recent transportation metrics of the St. Louis region to those of 34 peer Metropolitan Statistical Areas. These peer regions are St. Louis’ domestic competition and provide a consistent yardstick to gauge “Where We Stand.” In June 2015, East-West Gateway will produce the St. Louis region’s next Long Range Transportation Plan (RTP) – Connected 2045. In the year leading up to the publication of the plan, the public will help set priorities that will guide how transportation funding is allocated in the region. Compared to the peer regions, St. Louis provides an extensive transportation network with roads and bridges that are in relatively good condition. This network facilitates economic development by providing businesses with low congestion, tremendous freight assets, and a re

liable system. The region does not provide as many transportation options as many of the peer regions, contributing to less accessibility and higher transportation costs for residents. The Where We Stand Update document on Transportation is available online atwww.ewgateway.org/pdffiles/newsletters/

MoDOT wants your opinion: Please take time to provide your thoughts and comments by July 3. The transportation projects and improvements listed athttp://www.modot.org/movingforward/Regions/StLouisRegion-MovingForward.htm#.U5tZWpihzfM.facebook represent the work of regional transportation partners and planning agencies from across the St. Louis region.

The Missouri Highways and Transportation Commission is required to produce this list prior to August 5, as set forth in the provisions of Constitutional Amendment 7 that will be on the August ballot. The commission will accept public comments through July 3. All public comments and the final projects list will be approved at the July 9 commission meeting. I encourage you to let them know your thoughts on this list of priority projects.
